DF Spokesperson Kasibante Joins 2026 Race For Rubaga Division Mayorship

September 2, 20250

Moses Kasibante, the spokesperson for the Democratic Front, has officially submitted his expression of interest forms to contest for the mayorship of Rubaga Division on the party ticket.

The gathering at the party offices in Namirembe was exciting, celebrating the return of a familiar face in local politics as Kasibante was nominated by the DF Electoral Commission, led by Henry Lubowa, on September 2, 2025.

To the nomination table, he was flanked by top leaders of the DF including; Samuel Lubega Mukaaku (National Chairman), Micheal Sseninde (Secretary General), Micheal Kakembo (Party whip in Parliament, and Entebbe Municipality MP), among others.

Kasibante, a renowned orator, and former Member of Parliament for Rubaga North, made a significant impact in Parliament, where he passionately represented the views, and concerns of his constituents.

After stepping away from active politics in 2021, he took a sabbatical to delve into the agricultural sector, emerging as a prominent coffee farmer.

With deep roots in both his community, and the agricultural sector, he now re-enters politics with a refreshing vision for Rubaga Division.

“I have spent the last few years away, but the call from my community has been undeniable. My people have been yearning for my return not just as an MP for Rubaga North, but to lead from a different vantage point,” Kasibante said.

Kasibante’s commitment to agriculture will be pivotal in his campaign as he emphasizes the potential of this sector to drive economic transformation in Buganda.

Addressing the media shortly after his nomination, he pledged to integrate agricultural leadership into local governance.

“We are in the city, and the heart of Buganda’s economic transformation is agriculture. Some of the people to get access to financing for agriculture would be expected to be those in the city who would remind that their ancestral homes need this funding,” he stated.

His proposal includes a bold initiative to utilize the Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II Mengo Palace’s land for coffee farming, aiming to set a model for sustainable agriculture.

“Buganda today earns most of its money from coffee. When I become the Mayor [for Rubaga Division], I would ask the King to allow us to plant an acre of coffee in Nabagereka’s banana plantation inside the Mengo Palace,” Kasibante announced, demonstrating the transformative power of such projects in bridging city dwellers with their rural roots.

Emphasizing his commitment to broader development, he added, “I will not be a divisional mayor just beneficial to Rubaga division. I need to be a mayor who is beneficial to the entire Uganda.”

His focus on generating substantial agricultural expertise within Kampala stresses the importance of activating local resources for the greater good.

In a powerful push for proactive leadership, he welcomed constituents, urging them to unite early for effective governance.

“Despite the fact that the election would take place next year, we have to show leadership from now,” he assured the people of Rubaga Division as he encouraged them to rally around his vision for progress.

Kasibante did not shy away from addressing potential opponents, advising, “Our opponents we are going to unseat should use their remaining period to copy the right ways of a true leader in movements.”

With his nomination, Kasibante not only revitalizes his political career but also strengthens the Democratic Front’s platform of competent leaders prepared to spearhead transformative initiatives in the region.
