January 3, 20260

The Democratic Front (DF) presidential caravan rolled into Kampala on January 2, 2026, rallying support for its flag bearers in the capital city. At a packed rally in Kisenyi, the heart of Kampala Central, DF President Mpuuga threw his weight behind Nakuya Aidah, the party’s candidate for Kampala Central, and Nakitende Salaama Adelaide, vying for the Kampala district woman MP seat.

“We are supporting Erias Lukwago as the Mayor of Kampala because he has stood on the side of the people,” Mpuuga said, endorsing Lukwago’s re-election bid.

“He has always stood with the poor people of Kampala whenever fraudulent deals targeting them arose within his reign as the Lord Mayor,” Mpuuga added.

Mpuuga also hailed Nakuya as the right replacement for outgoing MP Muhammad Nsereko, citing her track record as a councilor at KCCA.

“We [DF] say that Nakuya is the right candidate to replace Nsereko who has ably represented you well in Parliament for the last 15 years,” he said.

Addressing the crowd, Nakuya outlined her vision for Kampala Central, promising to move motions and bills in Parliament and establish a job center to benefit residents.

“I will move a motion that every Ugandan in Kampala who starts a small and medium enterprise would be eligible to get a tax holiday for three years,” she said, “I will establish an employment centre which would be a link between job seekers and employers, and it would contain the Sacco which we would use to save our money for development purposes.”

Party officials and candidates accompanying Mpuuga included National Chairman Lubega Mukaaku (flag bearer, Lubaga South), David Musiri (Flag bearer, Makindye West,) Salaama Party spokesperson Kasibante Moses (flag bearer, Lubaga Division Mayor), Nalubyayi Zahra Talidda (flag bearer, Bukoto East, Masaka), Nansubuga Fatimah (flag bearer, Kawempe South), Nakandi Winfred (flag bearer, Nakawa East) among others.

Kasibante praised Nakuya’s grassroots connections, saying she’s the right candidate to represent Kampala Central in Parliament.

Lubega Mukaaku thanked Kampala residents for supporting DF, saying Nakuya is the only candidate who can effectively argue for their interests in Parliament.

“Nakuya knows every corner of Kampala Central, a Constituency she seeks to represent,” Mukaaku said.

Mpuuga cautioned voters against selling out to other candidates, warning that they would be “evicted from Kisenyi” if they allowed their votes to be stolen. Nansubuga Fatimah urged Kisenyi residents to vote for DF candidates for real change.

In a promise to protect the environment, Mpuuga vowed to plant trees in Kampala if he DF candidates are elected.

“If you vote for DF, we are going to plant trees so that we can protect the environment,” he said.

The rally was a resounding show of support for DF’s Kampala candidates, with Nakuya and Nakitende Salaama Adelaide expressing gratitude for the party’s backing.
