In a show of resilience and optimism, Mathias Mpuuga, the President of the Democratic Front (DF), has expressed his unwavering conviction that the people in Masaka City will re-elect him based on his impressive leadership track record.
Speaking in an interview with NBS TV aired on November 19, 2025, Mpuuga highlighted the strong connection he has cultivated with his constituents, stating, “Masaka City is one area that I know so well. I understand the demeanor of the people of Masaka, I have a fair appreciation of what they construct as issues dear to them, and one of them is quality leadership.”
Since launching of his re-election campaign for Nyendo-Mukungwe on November 14, 2025, Mpuuga has experienced an overwhelmingly positive reception from his constituents.
In an interview, he reflected on his 15 years of dedicated legislative service which has been a blend of national service, and enhanced local service delivery to the city thorough demanding for Masaka’s fair share of the national cake.
“Over the last 15 years, I have been their able representative and they have not questioned my capacity and ability to represent them, speak for them, and also demand for their fair share of the national cake,” with great confidence, Mpuuga said, “I am very convinced that the people of Masaka will vote for me again on account of my track record.”
Mpuuga acknowledged that although he changed to the Democratic Front political party, he remained optimistic about his support base.
He pointed out, “Inevitably, you lose one or two people, and that is natural, but as I lose two [people], I gain 10 and I should be back in the 12th Parliament.”
This optimism was echoed in his recent campaign activities, where he actively engaged with the pressing issues facing his constituents.
Mpuuga’s ability to respond to public concerns has been evident, and he remarked, “Questions arise over a number of issues, but thankfully I am able to respond to these issues because they are issues in public space.”
He said that his leadership has been pivotal in legislative roles including holding the government accountable, participating in the legislation without neglecting the local service delivery among his constituents.
In stark contrast to the attacks on his person launched by his opponents, Mpuuga emphasized that his campaign focuses on substantive issues.
“There is one side of the contest that has elected to make these matters personal and they have not raised any issue for the people in Masaka, but throwing insults and abuses, but Masaka is watching” Mpuuga stated, “my side has been consistent; we raise the bar in speaking to the issues of the voters, what we want to do, what we have done over the last five years.”
Mpuuga concluded with a determination to continue leading with integrity, asserting, “Some of the promises are not entirely in our space. They require a lot of lobbying, knowledge, and my side has a team that is knowledgeable about what should be done.”
