On August 18, 2025, the Democratic Front (DF) headquarters in Namirembe buzzed with energy as the party resumed its expression of interest forms, and the nomination of aspirants.
With the election season heating up, the event saw a remarkable turnout of eighteen (18) aspirants eager to secure a position under the Democratic Front banner.
This strong showing reflects the party’s ongoing commitment to fostering leadership and democratic participation across various levels.
Leading the nomination process was Henry Lubowa, the chairperson of the DF Electoral Commission, who efficiently registered the aspirants.
Among the aspirants, Nankinga Jane stood out as the sole contender for the Kampala Central Member of Parliament position for the day.
Local Government
Aside from Nankinga, the nominations featured a diverse array of candidates vying for leadership roles in different districts.
In Mayuge district, three sub-county chairpersons were nominated, showcasing the party’s grassroots engagement.
Walubo Rahim was nominated as an aspiring chairperson for Imanyiro Sub-county, while Kiyuba Mohammad and Tuuka Asuman also nominated at the parish, and town council levels, respectively.
Additionally, the nominations included local councilors from Mayuge, and Kampala.
Namuyonjo Proscovia was successfully nominated as Parish Councilor aspirant for Kityerera in Mayuge District, while Miti Cloves, and Kavuma Isaya were nominated as councilors in Kampala Central.
Their flocking to the party’s headquarters for the nomination event demonstrated the party’s reach, and ambition in crucial local governance.
The excitement at the nomination venue was palpable as other aspirants from Wakiso district, and Kampala added to the lineup.
Matovu Vicent was nominated as the Lubaga Division Councilor, alongside Emmanuel Kisitu, the Mayor of Kyengera Town Council.
The nominations also featured Lusambya Robert from Lubaga North, and Muuga Hussein Finnid, who is set to represent Nsadhu Parish in Buyemba, Bunya West Constituency in Mayuge District.
This robust assembly of candidates clearly indicates the DF’s strategic positioning for upcoming elections.
As the day unfolded at the DF headquarters, it became evident that this nomination exercise was more than a mere formality-it was a testament to the party’s dedication to expanding its leadership pool.
Despite being a new party, it’s nomination exercise has attracted both seasoned politicians, and fresh faces into the fray which clearly means that the Democratic Front is gearing up for a spirited electoral battle, aiming to solidify its presence across Kampala, Wakiso, and Mayuge in the months to come.
