Democratic Front (DF) President Mathias Mpuuga is set to embark on a nation-wide presidential caravan aimed at rallying support for DF candidates in both Parliamentary and Local Government contests.
The caravan, which includes top DF leadership, will kick off on December 4, 2025, in the Northern region, marking the beginning of a comprehensive party outreach to connect with voters across various constituencies and local government communities.
After starting in the Northern region, the DF presidential caravan will make its way to the Teso sub-region on December 7, 2025. This area is particularly important for the party, as it boasts a considerable number of candidates running for both Parliamentary and Local Government positions.
Mpuuga and his team aim to engage with local voters and communicate the party’s agenda with the people directly, in a manner that reinforces candidates.
The motivation behind the caravan stems from DF President Mpuuga’s belief in the importance of engaging with communities.
“I intend to embark on the presidential caravan to go and visit these communities, speak to the voters, and encourage them to support DF candidates so that we have a good representation in Parliament with good quality to be able to spearhead the issues we have already communicated at the DF,” he explained during an interview with NBS TV last month.
Highlighting the party’s noteworthy preparations, Mpuuga shared that DF has nominated a total of 88 candidates at the Parliamentary level and over 200 candidates for various Local Government positions.
“We did nominate 88 candidates [at Parliament level]. We contend that this is a sizeable number for us as a young party to support and speak to the people in their communities,” Mpuuga stated.
Mpuuga further emphasized the importance of quality leadership within the party, noting the need to restore political integrity in Uganda.
“What is not in question is that we have tried to look around for quality people that when you speak about leadership, you cannot really undermine the quality of our leaders across the country,” he said.
This focus on quality candidates is central to the party’s strategy as it seeks to make a tangible impact in Parliament.
Addressing the party’s objectives, Mpuuga clarified that DF is positioned to promote essential reforms in various sectors, including constitutional and electoral legal regime.
“As a young party, we have already set ourselves an agenda in the 12th Parliament and we want to go and speak to the people of Uganda to give us DF MPs to be able to try and expand and populate parliament and speak to this agenda,” he remarked.
Despite being a new force in Ugandan politics, the DF is gaining traction, bolstered by recent defections from established parties such as the National Unity Platform (NUP) and the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
The caravan is expected to resonate with voters who are searching for alternatives to the traditional political scene in Uganda, aiming to position DF as a credible option in the upcoming elections.
