November 14, 20250

On November 13, 2025, the Democratic Front (DF), held a flag-off event at the party headquarters in Namirembe, Kampala.

The occasion was primarily aimed at flagging off of candidates for various leadership positions in Lubaga Division for the upcoming national general elections, and during the ceremony presided over by Dr. Abed Bwanika, the party’s national treasurer and Haji Abdunoor Kyamundu, the DF deputy president in charge of Buganda, leaders emphasized the urgency for voters to prioritize competence over excitement when making their electoral choices.

During the event, DF introduced a slate of candidates spanning over hundred who will represent the party in Lubaga Division. Among the notable names is Kasibante Moses, a former MP for Lubaga North, who is running for the mayoral seat of Lubaga Division.

Other candidates include Samuel Lubega Mukaaku, the DF National chairman who is vying for the Lubaga South parliamentary seat, Robert Mukiibi for Lubaga North, and Adelaide Nakitende vying for Kampala District Woman MP seat, who was also attended the ceremony being the fact that Lubaga is part of Kampala district.

Additionally, several candidates for local council positions who were given the DF flags were also flagged off indicating the party’s commitment to filling leadership roles at all levels.

The party’s leaders articulated the need for Ugandans to make informed voting decisions.

Representing the party President Mathias Mpuuga, Dr. Abed Bwanika said, voters should focus on the qualifications and leadership track records of candidates rather than being swayed by populist gestures or superficial excitement.

Bwanika highlighted that the DF candidates have undergone a rigorous selection process, ensuring they embody the necessary qualities for effective leadership, thus the need for them to be entrusted with leadership positions.

As the party urged voters to make wise choices, it underscored the detrimental effects that hasty and emotion-driven decisions have had on Uganda.

Bwanika pointed out that the issues faced by the country are often the result of electing leaders without consideration of their abilities to offer effective leadership.

Supporting this call for competence, Haji Kyamundu, emphasized assessing candidates based on their ideas and dedication to serving the people.

He asserted that the candidates presented by the DF are among the best in quality, aimed at fostering effective leadership and delivering essential services to the community.

Incoming Lubaga Division mayor Kasibante in his capacity as DF spokesperson, expressed his commitment to providing quality leadership after getting elected, reflecting the overarching sentiment of the party’s leadership that competence must triumph over mere excitement in politics.

The Democratic Front is presenting a strong case for thoughtful voting as Uganda approaches its 2026 elections.

By prioritizing competence in leadership, the DF hopes to steer the country away from past mistakes and towards a brighter future, and the call for informed decision-making is expected to play a crucial role in influencing voters as they head to the polls.

We stand firm in our call for the decolonization of political institutions, acknowledging that the legacy of colonialism continues to shape power relations and governance structures in ways that limit the full expression of our sovereignty.
