In a stunning display of political enthusiasm, the newly formed Democratic Front (DF) has seen an impressive wave of interest as 616 aspirants registered their intentions to run for leadership positions across Uganda.
Since launching its internal nomination exercise on July 11, 2025, the DF’s electoral initiative has gained remarkable traction which, translated into such a record number of party members who had returned expression of interest forms, and dully registered as party aspirants by August 21, 2025.
The surge in party members’ participation in its electoral exercise turns out to be a milestone for a party that is merely three months old.
A breakdown of the numbers shows that among the aspirants, 81 individuals have expressed a desire to become DF Members of Parliament (MPs), indicating a robust ambition to take on national leadership roles.
The remaining aspirants are eyeing various positions within local governments across the country, demonstrating the party’s appeal at all levels of governance, which demonstrates the national in character nature of the DF.
Henry Lubowa, the chairman of the DF Electoral Commission, noted that the party is receiving consistent interest from its members.
In addition to the impressive turnout, two (2) additional party members have emerged as potential candidates for the presidency on the DF flag, and while their identities remain confidential at this time, they are in the process of fulfilling necessary requirements, and are expected to submit their nomination forms soon.
Demographic
The aspirants come from a diverse array of backgrounds, including young, middle-aged, and elderly individuals, united by their desire to bring about substantive change as envisioned by the DF.
Within this group, women and men alike are stepping forward, affirming the party’s commitment to gender inclusion and empowering all voices.
The party’s ideology, centered around reformation and a call for responsible governance, resonates strongly with many Ugandans who have long awaited transformative leadership. With a mission anchored in total reform, DF aims to rekindle Uganda’s political hygiene, appealing to citizens across all demographics.
