43 Hopefuls Flock To DF Offices On Day 1 Of Internal Electoral Exercise

The Democratic Front (DF) headquarters witnessed a momentous turnout on July 11, 2025, as 43 party members returned their expression of interest forms on the first day of the internal exercise. The aspirants are vying for various positions, including parliamentary seats and local government positions.

Out of the 43 aspirants, nine (9) expressed interest in becoming Members of Parliament, while the rest sought positions in Local Government, ranging from LC1 to LC5 levels.

Notable aspirants included Flavia Nakafeero, who seeks to represent Wakiso District as a woman MP, Hakim Ssemuwemba Ndawula for Busiro South parliamentary seat, Samuel Lubega Mukaaku the DF national chairman eyeing Lubaga South, Shamim Nangobi seeking to represent Jinja West, among others.

Regarding the Local Government level, youthful aspirants: Elisha Luwalira for the Makindye Division mayoral seat, Wanyana Hafiswa, eyeing a councilor position in Nansana Municipality, Muwanguzi Sharif among others, are seeking to become the Wakiso district chairperson, were among those who expressed interest in the DF party ticket.

According to Henry Lubowa, their respective branches will elect Secretary for Mobilization in charge of elections, the aspirants during the primaries.

Lubowa emphasized the importance of a fair and transparent process, warning aspirants against bringing gifts to the commissioners in an attempt to influence their nominations.

The exercise will end on August 15, 2025, for local government candidates and August 22, 2025, for parliamentary aspirants.

The Democratic Front is committed to ensuring a smooth and democratic process, allowing its members to participate fully in the decision-making process.

The party’s electoral commission is working tirelessly to ensure that the primaries are conducted in a free and fair manner. With 43 aspirants already expressing interest, the party is poised to field strong candidates in the upcoming general elections.

As the exercise continues, the Democratic Front remains confident in its ability to produce a new set of leaders who will take the party forward. The party urges all aspirants to adhere to the guidelines and timelines set by the electoral commission.
